Our Mission

Memorial Forest began in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, as the region is the least forested area in the country at only 2.6% woodland cover. It didn’t take long for our mission to grow, as we now have another team in Warrington and we’re currently searching for additional plots in England, Wales and Scotland.

We believe that real change needs to be made right now in order to ensure a sustainable future. If you know about a plot of land that could potentially become a Memorial Forest, we want to hear from you.

To significantly reforest multiple regions of the UK through carefully planned and fully protected forests.
To give veterans a new purpose in life in the form of rewarding work that will make a measurable difference to the future of the planet.
To offer businesses, families and individuals the opportunity to get involved by sponsoring a newly planted tree.
About Memorial Forest
Because trees mean life

Trees are truly wonderful things, as they create oxygen, soak up carbon, prevent flooding and provide a natural habitat for all kinds of wildlife. Memorial Forest is an ambitious undertaking that’s being coordinated and created by the PATT Foundation, a registered charity with the mission to make the world a greener place.

Our goal is to increase the volume of woodland in Yorkshire and across the UK through an ongoing commitment to reforestation. It’s an exciting undertaking and we’d love for you to be part of it by becoming a tree sponsor.

Planted by veterans

We’re proud to have a large team of hardworking and passionate individuals who have been given a new lease of life. The Green Task Force is composed entirely of veterans and service leavers who are dedicated to improving the environment through the planting of British native trees.

As a result, Memorial Forest benefits the UK’s ecology and net zero targets whilst providing rewarding work to veterans looking for an enriching career. We call it nature-based therapy through post-traumatic growth.

British native trees

A specially selected variety of trees are being planted to create the Memorial Forest, all of which are British native species. These include oak, willow, sycamore and silver birch, as they’re the most suitable tree types that have the best chance of growing big and strong.

The larger and healthier the trees become, the more effective they will be at cleaning the air and offering a haven for all kinds of birds, animals and insects. This attention to detail ensures that Memorial Forest works to the best interests of humans and wildlife alike.

Creating a lasting legacy

This is where you come in, as we’re looking for people who are passionate about the environment to sponsor our trees. It could be in your own name or that of your business, giving you total freedom over the type of sponsorship you take out.

As our name suggests, Memorial Forest is also an opportunity to name a tree after a loved one who has passed away. This creates a lasting legacy and celebrates their life in the form of a beautiful tree that will grow taller and stronger for many decades to come.
